In 1969, when the Guará was inaugurated, the Federal District was very different from what we know today. Large cities such as Ceilândia, Samambaia and Águas Claras did not exist, the Plano Piloto – even though it was already quite urbanized – was still a huge construction site, with several blocks and public buildings being built. There were not even traffic lights in Brasília, which only began to be installed a few years later due to the increase in vehicle traffic. The Estradas-Parque, in turn, designed by Lucio Costa and inspired by North American parkways – highways surrounded by beautiful landscapes and lots of greenery – were being implemented at full speed. The EPTG (Estrada-Parque Taguatinga) was well underway in its urbanization process, with several paved stretches and many eucalyptus trees being planted. The EPGU (Estrada-Parque Guará) was also beginning to be planned and would soon become an important access route to the Guará I and II.

But in those early years, despite the proximity of the Plano Piloto, public transportation to the Guará was still precarious. Few bus lines entered the city and many residents faced long walks to their homes, as many pioneers remember to this day. Fortunately, as time went by, everything changed drastically. Guará grew, developed and became home to a population with high purchasing power and high levels of education, attracting sophisticated commerce, top-notch gastronomy and many leisure options. EPTG and EPGU became its main access routes, both for private and public transport. EPTG, in particular, accompanied the growth and importance of the surrounding communities, expanding and becoming more modern over the years. The biggest change occurred between 2009 and 2010, when five viaducts were built or renovated and the road now has four lanes in each direction, with one of them reserved for buses. Two side roads and 16 footbridges were also built. All to provide greater safety and mobility for road users. In 2021, the GDF announced the creation of a new neighborhood nearby: the Jóquei Club Housing Sector, in an area of 252 hectares in front of Vicente Pires, between EPTG and Estrutural. And, from there, there will certainly be more improvements and modernization in nearby accesses, making life easier for residents. Guará and adjacent cities.
Subway and other means
The configuration of the paths to Guará gained a new chapter in 1998, with the inauguration of the Feira subway station, located near the busy Feira do Guará and the city's Regional Administration. The transport, which was new to the Federal District, made travel to the city much easier and free from the traffic on the main urban roads. In 2010, a new station was inaugurated: the Guará station, located between the Arniqueiras and Feira stations.

Currently, in addition to transportation by car, bus or subway, it is gaining more and more strength in Guará travel by bicycle and other non-motorized vehicles. The city already has more than 20 km of cycle paths and, soon, the Avenida Central do Guará II cycle path, which is under construction, will be available to residents. One thing is certain: whatever means of transport you use, getting to know the beauty and peculiarities of the city up close Guará, with its parks, fairs and shops, is an unmissable program that will only make you more interested in this city that has a lot of history and one of the best qualities of life in the Federal District.
