History of the Southwest Sector
Conceived by urban planner Lúcio Costa, the Southwest Sector, originally Bairro Oeste Sul, was conceived as an alternative new region to accommodate the growing population of Brasília.
In 1987, Costa presented the document “Brasília Revisitada”, in which he proposed the creation of new neighborhoods. Among the suggested projects was the Bairro Sudoeste, which was officially established on July 10, 1989.
Designed to reflect the characteristics of the South and North Wings, Sudoeste is located within the listed area of Brasília, which imposes some architectural restrictions, such as buildings not being allowed to exceed six stories and pilotis must remain free to ensure pedestrian access. The organization of the blocks, divided into series 100 and 300, originally follows the same logic as the Plano Piloto, ensuring the continuity of the original urban plan.
The neighborhood began to receive its first residents around 1993 and today it is recognized as one of the most valued and desired regions in Brasília.

Block 500 of the Southwest Sector
The Southwest Sector, including the new Block 500, along with other regions of the primary area of the Pilot Plan, is listed, respecting the Urban Plan and the document “Brasília Revisitada”, by Lúcio Costa.
Occupying an area of 14 hectares, close to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) and Parque das Sucupiras, Block 500 has 22 residential buildings and 2 commercial buildings, housing 3,500 residents who will have quick access to the Eixo Monumental.
