Construction work on Avenida W9 has been halted since 2014, awaiting a court decision regarding the “Santuário dos Pajés,” an indigenous territory considered sacred that occupied a stretch of the area where the road passes. After a settlement between the government and the indigenous community, construction work resumed in July 2020 and was handed over to the public in the first half of April this year. Also known as Avenida dos Ipês, Avenida W9 will allow vehicles to travel between the Setor de Transporte Norte (STN) and DF 040. In addition, the avenue promises to boost the neighborhood’s economy, given that it will be home to most of the commercial enterprises in the Northwest, mainly stores. The avenue, which is expected to be the neighborhood’s main road, has two lanes, one in each direction, with three lanes each. The road is expected to serve around 20,000 residents who currently live in the Northwest Sector.
