Brasília is a city unlike any other in the country. Even our winter is unique: sunny, warm, dry days with clear, blue skies. Stunning sunsets with spectacular beauty. And the nights and early mornings are cooler, usually ranging between 10theC and 18theC, when frost is also common, especially in rural and higher areas of the city. And we cannot forget, of course, the flowering of the ipês, which fill our landscape with color.
This period of milder weather and no rain, between the months of June and August, favors outdoor activities and various events that delight both locals and tourists. Some spots in the city are perfect for those who enjoy watching the sunset and love photographing this spectacle of nature. Here are some of them:
Cruzeiro Square – The site of the first mass in Brasília in 1957, the square is located at the highest point of the Plano Piloto. The elevation of the terrain allows you to watch the sun until it disappears completely on the horizon. A favorite spot for many families, who enjoy the end of the afternoon on Sundays with lively picnics, the space is also disputed by many food trucks that help make the experience a complete and unmissable program for all ages.

Dom Bosco Chapel – Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the small temple was built on a slab platform on the shores of Lake Paranoá. From there, you can see the sun setting just behind the main buildings in the central region of Brasília.

TV Tower – From here you can see the entire Esplanada dos Ministérios and part of the Eixo Monumental, as well as access to the luminous fountain and the viewpoint. The view is unforgettable.

South Lake Pier – Close to the Honestino Guimarães Bridge, the location is on the edge of Lake Paranoá and has a waterfront with a wide variety of renowned restaurants and bars, always attracting thousands of Brasilia residents and tourists who seek out the local attractions, moments of socializing, family and friend gatherings, as well as various gastronomic and entertainment options.

Other interesting points worth visiting: CCBB, Digital Tower, Calçadão da Asa Norte, Orla da Ponte JK and National Museum.
The cooler evening weather is also ideal for a nice dinner. There are many options throughout the city, with restaurants all over the city that range from comfort food to haute cuisine. Asa Norte, Sudoeste, Guará and Águas Claras lead the way with great culinary options. And for those who enjoy traditional events, the June festivals are great choices, taking place all over the capital in churches, clubs, parks and schools. Also worth mentioning is Na Praia, the largest entertainment festival in the Central-West region that starts in July and brings big names in national music to the federal capital.
Alto Paraíso and Pirenópolis: winter activities attract many people from Brasília
But Brasília isn't the only city that offers great winter options. In cities near the capital, there are events designed specifically for this time of year. In Pirenópolis, a historic city 150 km from Brasília, there is the Piri Festival, bringing together the best flavors and sounds at the local Cavalhódromo. This year, the festival will feature a show by Zé Ramalho. Chapada dos Veadeiros, 235 km from the Plano Piloto Bus Station, hosts the Ilumina Festival, an event with shows, dances, yoga, experiences, vegan cuisine and debates about spirituality and nature.
In restaurants, outdoors, at festivals or in nearby cities, winter in Brasília always brings opportunities to try new things and enjoy the cold weather of these special months. Don't miss out!
